Diet & Feeding Guide
The L397 Red Tiger Pleco, also known as the Alenquer Tiger Pleco, primarily feeds on wood—specifically the biofilm that grows on it. They are omnivorous and will also eat sinking pellets, algae wafers, vegetables, and the occasional meaty treat.
Wood
This pleco has a specialized mouth designed to rasp biofilm from driftwood. Providing plenty of driftwood is essential for their health.
Why Wood is Important:
- Natural Diet: In the wild, L397s rely on biofilm found on submerged wood.
- Digestion: Consuming wood helps with proper digestion.
- Behavior: Encourages natural grazing and foraging behavior.
Supplemental Foods
- Sinking Pellets & Algae Wafers: Provide balanced nutrition and variety.
- Vegetables: Zucchini, cucumber, spinach, and other soft veggies are great additions.
- Frozen Foods: Accepts small items like daphnia and mysis shrimp.
- Meaty Snacks: Occasional treats like bloodworms, brine shrimp, or insect larvae.
